Information about the origins of soft rag dolls

A brief history of Rag Dolls, also known as Soft Stuffed Dolls:

Soft stuffed rag dolls have traditionally been children's toys. They are also collected by adults for their nostalgic value, beauty, historical importance or financial value.

The traditional rag doll is a cloth figure doll made from (and stuffed with) spare scraps of material that represent a baby or other human being. In ancient times dolls were used as representations of a deity and played a central role in religious ceremonies and rituals.

Rag dolls have been featured in a number of children's stories. Most notably as Raggedy Ann in the 1918 book by John Barton Gruelle.

Today, the high quality 18 inch soft Adorable Kinders rag dolls are commercially produced by Granza Inc. in Winter Springs, Florida, USA.
